Tēnā tātou, I have been teaching for over 20 years, with most of my experience in junior part of primary school. The most recent part of my career has seen me out of the classroom and supporting our lead team and kaiako. As Pou Whirinaki I support the wider lead team and champion inclusive, culturally responsive practice and strengthening wellbeing across our learning community.
My passions include te reo Māori me ōna tikanga, Pasifika success in education, te whare tapawha and sport. I value working alongside whānau, tamariki, teachers and school support staff to explore meaningful ways to connect and to help create strong foundations for success for our tamariki.
My mother is from the islands of Kiribati and instilled in me a deep appreciation for language and cultural identity. Although I was born in Aotearoa New Zealand, I speak the Kiribati language and have a good grasp of te reo Māori.
Outside of school, I am a proud parent of four children. My two eldest are now adults—one working as a nurse and one studying at university—while my two youngest are in their final years of high school. I enjoy coaching, watching, and playing sport, including touch, basketball, netball, and rugby, and I also love relaxing with a good book or a movie in my PJs.
